Earth's demise could involve being swallowed by our expanding sun, while other planets in the solar system will be 'crushed and ground to dust.' Scientists predict this event to occur in about six billion years.
When the sun burns through its hydrogen in about five billion years, it will expand to more than 200 times its original size, eventually becoming a white dwarf that leaves behind an ultra-dense remnant with a powerful gravitational field.
