UGC 10043 is one of the somewhat rare spiral galaxies that are seen edge-on, allowing us to observe its disk as a sharp line through space, overlaid with a prominent dust lane.
In the arms of UGC 10043, we can see the lights of some active star-forming regions shining out from behind the dust that obscures parts of the galaxy.
The center of UGC 10043 sports a glowing, almost egg-shaped 'bulge,' rising far above and below the disk, indicating a significant structure in its composition.
The unusually large size of the bulge compared with the galaxy's disk is possibly due to UGC 10043 siphoning material from a nearby dwarf galaxy.
