Are rising carbon dioxide and nitrogen deposition a joint threat to biodiversity globally?
Briefly

A 24-year field experiment indicates that adding nitrogen to grassland plots significantly reduces species richness. When carbon dioxide levels are increased, this reduction in diversity is amplified, tripling the effects caused by nitrogen addition.
Surprisingly, the relationship between rising carbon dioxide concentrations and terrestrial species diversity has been scarcely studied, which highlights a gap in ecological research that warrants further investigation.
