In the two decades since Scala's inception, effective governance has been identified as crucial for the longevity and health of the project. Following the release of Scala 3 in May 2021, the governance model underwent redesign efforts presented at ScalaCon 2022. This includes enhancements in development coordination, community engagement, and tool consolidation. Major milestones have been achieved with the updated Scala Improvement Process and recent Tooling Summits aimed at improving user experience, all driven by an iterative, transparent governance framework embraced by the Scala development teams.
Good project governance is essential for the health and maturity of large open-source projects like Scala, requiring transparency and an iterative approach.
Since the Scala 3 release, we've mapped out governance to ensure collaborative evolution of the language and have made great progress in key areas.
Our updated Scala Improvement Process encourages open proposals to evolve Scala, enhancing community interaction and fostering innovative ideas in language development.
The Tooling Summits held in 2023 focused on consolidating the Scala tooling ecosystem, ensuring that users have a seamless experience.
