After the trade of Mikael Granlund, Alexander Wennberg embraced greater responsibility with the San Jose Sharks and responded positively. He recorded multiple assists in recent games, contributing to crucial plays that led to a shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Injured previously, the break allowed him to return refreshed and reinvigorated, enhancing his performance. He shifted to a new line strategy, showcasing strong teamwork even in losses. This victory marked a notable turnaround for the Sharks after a prolonged slump of defeats since Granlund's trade.
I’ve been injured before and got that break, so I got a little bit of rest and was just excited to play again. Getting away from the game gives you that little bit extra jump, if you ask me.
It hasn't been easy. We've had a couple of close games here and have been falling short. It's nice to get rewarded.
Wennberg knew he would have to assume a bit more responsibility with the San Jose Sharks after do-everything forward Mikael Granlund was traded.
The win was the Sharks' first since Jan. 27, four days before Granlund and defenseman Cody Ceci were traded to the Stars for two draft picks, including a first-rounder.
