Marc-Edouard Vlasic of the San Jose Sharks has broken the NHL shot-blocking record, previously held by Mark Giordano, with his 2,165th blocked shot against the Buffalo Sabres. Since the league began tracking blocked shots in the 2005-06 season, Vlasic, who debuted the following season, has dedicated himself to a defensive role that often includes taking pucks for the team. He expressed pride in his record, stating the importance of stepping in front of shots to protect the goalie and the team.
"That's a lot of blocked shots," he said. "It's pretty cool. I take pride in playing good defensively."
"When it's your turn to block, you block it," he said. "I'll step in front of any puck I need to to make sure it doesn't get to the goalie."
