Sharks trade Granlund, Ceci to Stars
Briefly

The San Jose Sharks traded forward Mikael Granlund and defenseman Cody Ceci to the Dallas Stars ahead of the Four Nations Tournament for a 2025 first-round pick and a conditional third-round pick. General Manager Mike Grier indicated the trade was opportunistic due to recent market activity. Granlund was a key asset, having scored 45 points this season, while Ceci struggled with goals above replacement despite leading in ice time. The Sharks now possess eight picks, including two first-round selections, enhancing their draft strategy for 2025.
The Sharks will only receive the third-round pick if the Stars advance to the Stanley Cup Final. If Dallas does not make it that far, then the Sharks will receive a 2025 fourth-round pick (Winnipeg's) instead.
Granlund was the Sharks' best asset. The 32-year-old had 45 points in 52 games this season. The team also moved a veteran defenseman, albeit the one with the worst underlying numbers on the team.
