San Jose Sharks GM Mike Grier made a notable trade before the NHL deadline, sending leading scorer Fabian Zetterlund to the Ottawa Senators. In exchange, the Sharks acquired forwards Zack Ostapchuk and Noah Gregor along with a 2025 second-round draft pick, while also sending Tristen Robins and a 2025 fourth-round draft pick to Ottawa. Grier emphasized the importance of acquiring Ostapchuk, a young centerman expected to bolster the Sharks' depth and future roster, as they rebuild after a poor season.
You've got to be strong down the middle, and this kid gives us something a little bit different: size, pace, hardness, physicality. You don't find many of those types of players.
Just something we felt like we needed to do and have a fit for our roster and roster construction moving forward.
