San Jose's PayPal Park may soon host concerts, expanding its usage beyond soccer. The San Jose Earthquakes propose a plan to allow 15 concerts yearly, taking advantage of the city’s favorable weather and the existing noise from the nearby airport. Mayor Matt Mahan believes this could benefit both the city and residents. The project aims to boost local business, evidenced by the recent growth of new restaurants and entertainment venues nearby. Local leaders see the expansion as a way to elevate San Jose's profile as a destination for world-class events.
"It's already a part of town where you already have some noise with the airport ... I really think this could be a win-win for everybody," Mahan said.
"People will park here, because it's more convenient and they'll take a shuttle up to PayPal... there's new restaurants, new bars, new entertainment venues coming online almost every month," Stettinski said.
