"The best thing hockey ever gave me - friends for life," Thornton said during his emotional jersey retirement ceremony, thanking teammates, coaches, and family for their support throughout his career.
"Thank you for making hockey fun, even in the hardest moments," said longtime teammate Patrick Marleau as he honored Thornton during the ceremony, expressing gratitude for their shared journey.
With his pinpoint passing, infectious joy and signature beard, Thornton became the face of the Sharks franchise, now honored with his No. 19 jersey in the rafters.
"It feels good to be back," Thornton remarked during the emotional event attended by former teammates in tribute to his impactful career and friendship.
