San Jose Sharks re-sign pending RFA defenseman to one-year contract

The San Jose Sharks have signed defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin to a one-year, $1 million extension following his trade from the New Jersey Devils. At 23, Mukhamadullin showcased his potential during the last season, contributing significantly on ice and earning praise from coaches. After playing 51 games split between the Sharks and their AHL affiliate, he averaged over 18 minutes per game and excelled as a top defenseman. Mukhamadullin, 23, was coming off his three-year entry-level contract he signed with the New Jersey Devils in Dec. 2021.
Shakir earned the opportunity to be a part of the Sharks and was able to get some valuable experience playing against quality opponents that helped aid his development.
Mukhamadullin had nine points and averaged just over 18 minutes of ice time with the Sharks, showing promise as a top defenseman.
The Sharks have several other RFAs on their roster, notably forwards Nikolai Kovalenko, Klim Kostin, and others, causing uncertainty for the team's future.
