MacDonald suffered an injury to his lower body after he scored in the third period of Saturday's game against the Vancouver Canucks, coach David Quinn told San Jose Hockey Now on Wednesday morning.
Goalie Mackenzie Blackwood was ill Wednesday and did not take part in the Sharks' morning skate. With Blackwood appearing to be unavailable, the Sharks recalled goalie Magnus Chrona from the Barracuda. Kaapo Kahkonen will start against the Kings.
The Sharks now have five players on IR, tied for the most in the NHL. MacDonald joins Matt Benning (lower body), Ty Emberson (lower body), centers Nico Sturm (hand), and Ryan Carpenter (mid-body).
