With the NHL Draft Lottery approaching, Sharks players like Macklin Celebrini are eager to see the results. The Sharks hold a 25.5% chance to win, reminiscent of last year when they were awarded the No. 1 pick and selected Celebrini. With a 20-50-12 record this season, their chances are now 18.8% for second pick and 55.7% for third. Matthew Schaefer, the projected top defenseman, would be likely to join if they win the lottery, while the team considers several forwards for other picks.
"That's the future of our organization, and something that affects all of us," Celebrini said last month, "so I'm going to be paying attention to it."
"At the top, after Schaefer, it's probably more forward-heavy, which is fine," Sharks general manager Mike Grier said last month. "There are good players there that I think will be impactful NHL players."
