Nikolai Knyzhov joins the Pittsburgh Penguins on a professional tryout after overcoming multiple injuries, aiming to secure a position on the defense squad.
Knyzhov, a former Sharks rookie of the year, spent last season with the Barracuda in the AHL, scoring 14 points in 40 games.
Connections to the Penguins include former Sharks coach David Quinn and defenseman Erik Karlsson, who was traded to Pittsburgh last August.
Knyzhov will compete for a role as the sixth or seventh defenseman in a team currently consisting of six established defense players.
