David Quinn joins Pittsburgh Penguins coaching staff alongside longtime friend Mike Sullivan. Reunites with former player Erik Karlsson for whom he coached the most productive season.
Erik Karlsson's success under Quinn in 2022-23 led to Norris Trophy win. Karlsson, seeking playoff contention, was traded from San Jose to Pittsburgh in August.
The Sharks received forwards Mikael Granlund, Mike Hoffman, Jan Rutta, and a 2024 first-round draft pick from the Penguins in Karlsson trade, freeing cap space.
