Brent Burns, Carolina Hurricanes defenseman and former San Jose Sharks player, recommended the Jr. Sharks youth hockey program to Dr. Rick Celebrini, who sought a challenging environment for his sons. Burns' own positive experience with the program influenced the Celebrini family's relocation from Vancouver to San Jose. With his son Jagger's involvement, Burns highlighted the quality of the Jr. Sharks, especially for prodigies like Macklin Celebrini, who thrived in the organization, finishing the 2019-2020 season with an impressive 101 points in 61 games.
There were a lot of different reasons for his family to make it work, the distance and everything, being around here. My kid was pretty young, so it's changed a lot since I've been here.
It was important (Macklin) be challenged; it was a good group.
We visited San Antonio. There's no real youth hockey.
Everything about the area and the organization, it's great. It's fun to come back and see all of the faces, and it was a special group.
