After lottery, should Mike Grier try to acquire the Islanders' No. 1 pick?
Briefly

After securing the No. 2 pick in the NHL Draft, Sharks GM Mike Grier expressed openness to trading it for a quality offer. The New York Islanders hold the No. 1 pick and lack a general manager, complicating potential trade discussions for that selection. Matthew Schaefer is favored to go first, but Grier is contemplating options. The Islanders could consider trading down to select James Hagens, a local prospect, who could resonate with fans while still improving their roster.
Shortly after the San Jose Sharks secured the No. 2 overall pick in June's NHL Draft, general manager Mike Grier was asked about the possibility of trading it elsewhere.
Grier stated, "If we get a quality offer for the No. 2 pick, we’re quite willing to entertain the possibility."
Defenseman Matthew Schaefer, expected to be the first player taken in the draft, would have been an ideal fit for the Sharks.
The Islanders could trade down and collect another asset while still getting an exceptional player in Hagens, who would surely be a fan favorite.
