After the end of the fifth, the scoreboard at Oracle Park flashed in Giants-colored tie-dye as the team introduced 'Giants AI' as the mid-inning entertainment. The Giants asked fans to submit a photo of their faces and used artificial intelligence to create Grateful Dead-themed images.
The connection between the Giants and the Grateful Dead goes beyond shared San Francisco origins. In 1993, the Dead sang the national anthem at the Giants' home opener for the first time in their career.
According to publicist Dennis McNally, Garcia was not a sports fan but a fan of all things San Francisco. The band met Giants legends Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, and Gaylord Perry before singing at the Giants' game.
