Bryce Eldridge is developing as a first baseman with guidance from J.T. Snow, a former Gold Glove winner. Eldridge aims to improve defensively after a challenging previous season, where he committed 18 errors. The Giants plan to take a cautious approach, focusing on his fundamentals and gradual integration into games, often using him as a designated hitter. Snow's mentorship emphasizes the importance of defensive skills, with a dedication to enhancing Eldridge's game through hands-on training and targeted practice in key areas.
Given Snow's defensive acumen, it should come as no surprise that he has one special assignment: mentoring Eldridge at first base.
Obviously, it wasn't perfect last year, Eldridge told reporters earlier this spring. We're going to keep having growing pains, but the goal is to be steady over there and be the best I can be.
We’re just trying to hammer that down and keep getting better fundamentally and slow things down there.
Snow, for his part, is beginning his professorship with the fundamentals. Prior to Monday's game against the Colorado Rockies, Snow and third base coach Matt Williams worked with Eldridge on picks and pop flies.
