Those familiar with the Chapman negotiations said while Posey played a role in the talks, as expected, it was not to the extent described in a story by the Athletic over the weekend and that the structure of the deal was consummated by Zaidi and Scott Boras, Chapman's agent.
Boras remarked that the Athletic never contacted him and that Baggarly's report was 'inaccurate' and characterized Posey's involvement as no different from how other ballclub executives are usually a part of these negotiations.
After sharing that he spoke with Boras, Pavlovic also noted that while Posey did get involved, 'It's actually not unusual for ownership to get involved with something like this, especially when you're giving a player an extension.'
The ongoing tension among Giants beat reporters, stemming from conflicting reports about Buster Posey's role in contract negotiations, highlights a deeper uncertainty around the management structure.
