The Padres are calling up reliever Eduarniel Núñez for an upcoming doubleheader against the Phillies. In a corresponding move, Matt Waldron is being optioned to Triple-A. The team can select a 27th player for the doubleheader, and an opening on the 40-man roster exists after designating Logan Gillaspie for assignment. Núñez, 26, has spent most of the season in Double-A, posting a 3.57 earned run average over 22 2/3 innings and earning a promotion to Triple-A with impressive strikeout performances.
