The 49ers only were willing to trade Brandon Aiyuk if they could get a top-flight WR to replace him. They offered a third-round pick to Denver for Courtland Sutton, and then would've dealt Aiyuk to the Steelers, but the Broncos declined the offer.
Had the Broncos accepted the trade offer, the 49ers would have been in a position to deal Aiyuk to the Steelers. However, with the Broncos declining, Aiyuk remains in San Francisco.
The 49ers agreed to a significant four-year, $120 million extension for Aiyuk after he missed training camp and the preseason amid a hold-in for a new deal.
