The most notable news to come out of the farm on Wednesday was the news that AA Richmond outfielder Vaun Brown (No. 17 CPL) had been placed on the Development List... A player on the Development List isn't injured, but they can't play in games and they don't count against the roster limit... What they can do is stay with the team - or, as is usually the case, head to the team's complex in Arizona - and work on their game.
Brown's season has been incredibly difficult... The righty has hit .120/.165/.260, and in 109 plate appearances has drawn just 5 walks ... while striking out 53 times... Brown's 48.6% strikeout rate is last by a mile, while his 4.6% walk rate is 43rd. Among 1,435 Minor League prospects with 100 plate appearances, Brown's strikeout rate is 3rd-highest ... and his wRC+ of 16 is dead last.
Perhaps the Giants should call up the entire Sacramento squad, as the River Cats have now scored 31 runs over their last 2 games. San Francisco could use some of that, please!
