Jordan Hicks, Logan Webb, and the curse of the power rankings
Briefly

This is a lot of polling in a short amount of time, for one thing, and the premises they're using as a means of redoing the rankings nearly every week feel very sweaty.
Rankings generate discussion/conflict which leads to views and engagement, now more than ever, considering the partnership with online gambling & fantasy sports sites.
It feels frenetic, a vibe that doesn't pair nicely with Major League Baseball. It's an editorial directive at odds with the nature of the sport and the usual conversations surrounding it.
Webb, of course, was 0-1 with a 4.86 ERA and had been punked by the Dodgers. So, he is persona non grata from an MLB.com perspective.
