Moronta, a former Giants relief pitcher, passed away in a car crash in the Dominican Republic at 31. He had played for the Giants for parts of four seasons, signing with them as a teenager and making his MLB debut in 2017.
After showing promising performances in 2018 and 2019, suffering injuries led to Moronta's time off the field. He was dropped from the Giants' roster in 2021 and became a free agent, later playing for the Dodgers and Arizona in 2022.
