Martin was viewed by most evaluators as a first-round talent, and the Giants gave him a signing bonus of roughly $3 million, which is right in line with a late first-round pick, and more than double the slot value of where he was actually selected.
The 19-year old Martin graded out as one of the best pure athletes in the draft, and was the Gatorade Player of the Year in Colorado last season, where he hit a comical .633/.722/1.632 with 75 RBI and a nation-leading 20 home runs in 29 games.
