Fans express mixed feelings; while some are excited for new opportunities, others lament the team's departure from Oakland, fearing another round of emotional attachment followed by loss as the franchise relocates again.
Thousands showed up at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento Monday night for the home opener for the Athletics. Attendance was a sellout of 12,119.
John Metz flew in from Seattle for the game. He's a lifelong A's fan who grew up in Tracy and Elk Grove. "I grew up 20 minutes from the stadium... so it's pretty surreal and I couldn't miss it," Metz said. But it was also bittersweet for Metz, who said he's still upset the team left Oakland.
Katie Hung, a lifetime A's fan from the Bay Area, says she's happy for the city of Sacramento. "I think it's awesome that the people are excited about this, but again, they're gonna go through the same thing."
