The Oakland Athletics began their new chapter with their first home game at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, leaving many long-time fans in Oakland feeling abandoned. Longtime A's supporter Chris Dobbins expressed devastation over the team's move, stating he wouldn't attend opening day. Mixed feelings characterized the fans’ reactions; some expressed interest in the new young players but held resentment toward the team's management, especially owner John Fisher. The A's will play at this minor league field while awaiting a new ballpark in Las Vegas, further alienating their former fan base.
"It's sad because it never had to be that way," said Bryan Johansen, one of three owners of the Last Dive Bar. "We had to watch and see our team that has been rooted in Oakland for 57 years playing in a minor league ballpark in Sacramento."
Peter Kim of Oakland said, "There's some exciting young players, but I'm not rooting for them, I'm not following them. I don't care if they make the playoffs. They are dead to me."
