The 2025 Western States 100, scheduled for June 28-29, promises to deliver one of the most competitive men's ultrarunning fields in the U.S. With over 100 miles of challenging terrain, the race has attracted notable contenders, including previous champions and record holders. Last year's competition saw extraordinary performances, with many participants finishing under 16 hours. While several top finishers from the previous year will not be returning, the presence of fast runners who clocked impressive times last year ensures an exciting showdown is imminent.
With 2024 champ and course record holder Jim Walmsley, along with four other men from last year's top 10, not returning this year, the race appears wide open.
Last year, fast conditions and a great field put 12 men, more than ever before, under 16 hours, and 11 runners under 15:18.
