Reggae and Stern Grove proved to be a perfect pair. Heavy dub echo on just about every instrument reverberated through the eucalyptus and redwood trees, as the bassist playfully skipped around the length of the stage in a flowing white robe and Steel Pulse proved that they're still one of the top-tier legacy reggae bands in the world.
Chaka Khan was the main event, and when it comes to roaring funk divas, ain't nobody who does it better. Buttressed by a trio of forceful backup singers and an ace live band, she ripped through a deep catalog of hits, including a revelatory version of "Ain't Nobody" and an "I'm Every Woman" singalong that's sure to go down as one of the loudest in Stern Grove history.
