World's largest Monopoly board gets spruced up by volunteers in South Bay
Briefly

San Jose's 'Monopoly in the Park,' a 930-square-foot granite game board, has been revitalized by a group of volunteers. Known for its heavy use for public events, the board opened in 2002 but suffered wear and tear over the years from visitors. Community event director Emily Lansing emphasized the importance of this space for bringing people together to enjoy games and activity. The game board features oversized dice and life-sized tokens, available for rent, enhancing its appeal as an interactive attraction.
Over the years, its paint has been dulled and scuffed up by the people playing and walking on it. This is one of our most utilized parks for public events and stuff. So, it's really giving the opportunity for people from all over to come in and see the board and jump around and play on it and have a good time. The Monopoly in the Park website says it actually has giant pieces -- including oversized dice and life-sized tokens -- that can be rented for playing a game.
The giant game board isn't just for show or social media posts. It opened up in 2002. A band of volunteers gave San Jose's 'Monopoly in the Park' a much-needed makeover Saturday.
