"Our Waymo just ran over a dog,"
"Trying to call customer support. Called the police. Crowd is gathering not sure what to do."
"Unfortunately, a Waymo vehicle made contact with a small, unleashed dog in the roadway. We are dedicated to learning from this situation and how we show up for our community as we continue improving road safety in the cities we serve,"
"I was in a Waymo ... Next thing I heard was yelping. I didn't see the dog before the impact, but the kids were screaming about it."
At about 8 p.m. Sunday, a Waymo autonomous vehicle struck a small, unleashed dog at Scott and Eddy streets in Western Addition. A passenger riding with family posted on Reddit that the vehicle ran over the dog, that they were trying to call customer support, had called the police, and that a crowd was gathering. Waymo confirmed the vehicle made contact with a small unleashed dog and said it is dedicated to learning from the situation while improving road safety; the company reported no status update on the dog. The incident follows a recent Waymo collision that killed a Mission District bodega cat and prompted calls for local votes on autonomous vehicle presence. A 311 report was filed around 8:25 p.m.
