"We're building a safer future one ride at a time, and I'm thrilled to share that we've just surpassed 100k paid trips per week," wrote Mawakana. "Congratulations to the entire Waymo team on this incredible milestone, and thank you to our riders who make this journey possible."
Waymo's sixth-generation vehicle platform, dubbed Driver, is based in a Zeekr SUV and set to carry more passengers than the current Jaguar I-Pace units being used for ride-sharing.
Waymo was granted permission to drop its waitlist in the Bay Area, meaning that riders no longer need to sign up but just need to download the Waymo One app.
Despite gaining approvals to expand throughout much of the year, Waymo is also facing some pushback from California organizations and communities, under scrutiny from regulators amidst broader skepticism of driverless ride-hailing.
