Tesla Semi Truck Crash and Fire on I-80 Being Investigated By Feds
Briefly

The fire from the Tesla semi truck's lithium-ion battery created substantial hazardous conditions, forcing the closure of I-80 for 16 hours while firefighters managed the situation.
Dylan Khoo said, 'You can't just spray water on it, and this produced a lot of toxic fumes that forced the closure of I-80 in both directions.' The fire burned longer and generated more toxic gases than a typical EV battery.
After the crash, the westbound lanes of I-80 reopened at approximately 13 hours post-fire, while eastbound lanes remained closed until around 7 pm, significantly affecting traffic and drivers.
The incidents underscore the challenges posed by lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles, as seen in a previous fire incident in San Bernardino County which raised similar safety concerns.
