Teen accused of shooting 49ers Ricky Pearsall appears in court; DA wants to try him as an adult
"The attorney with the city's District Attorney's office is requesting for the court to grant a "707 transfer hearing" that would officially move this case from a juvenile court to an adult criminal court. The Public Defender's attorney said the teen is a product of childhood trauma, neglect and the foster care system. Saying that the now 18-year-old has graduated high school is a respectful student and is enrolled in college urging the judge to believe the teen has shown the ability to rehabilitate."
"In July during a press conference, Ricki Pearsall said he is willing to meet the teen who shot him. "That's something I would probably do moving forward," said Pearsall. "When it gets to that point where I can sit down and talk to the kid. I want to first see if he's open to it because, you know, that's also important to me," said Pearsall."
The teen accused of shooting San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was in juvenile court and faces three charges including attempted murder. The shooting occurred when the suspect was 17; he is now 18. The District Attorney requested a 707 transfer hearing to move the case to adult criminal court. The Public Defender described the defendant as a product of childhood trauma, neglect, and the foster care system, noting high school graduation and college enrollment as evidence of rehabilitation. The DA cited prior cases and argued the defendant came prepared with a semi-automatic weapon and premeditated the robbery. Sergeant Joelle Harrell aided Pearsall after the chest wound, and Pearsall has said he may be willing to meet the shooter.
