Sunset District residents react to resignation of SF supervisor after only one week
""Very shocked. Very, very shocked. What's happened? Only one week?" Sunset District residents are frustrated and in disbelief Friday over the resignation of newly appointed Supervisor Beya Alcaraz. Alcaraz's resignation is another obstacle in what's been a challenging time for the neighborhood. Last year, a divisive vote closed a portion of the Great Highway and ultimately led to a recall campaign and ouster of former Supervisor Joel Engardio."
""We don't want it to be like a flag or a wind socket that just kind of moves with the wind every time the breeze changes. We want some steady leadership. We want someone that we can depend on," said Albert Chow."
"Teng says while he was excited about the opportunity of being led by a younger person, what the Sunset needs now is stability. "We're undergoing a lot of changes very quickly and we definitely need that representation right now," Teng said."
Beya Alcaraz resigned as newly appointed San Francisco supervisor after one week, leaving Sunset District residents frustrated and in disbelief. The resignation follows a turbulent period that included a divisive vote to close part of the Great Highway and a recall campaign that removed former Supervisor Joel Engardio. Community leaders express concern about repeated leadership changes and desire steady representation. Local business owner Albert Chow has been a vocal advocate for stable leadership and was rumored as a potential appointee. Kevin Teng and other business leaders emphasize the need for stability. An interim appointment will serve until June, when a special election will determine the long-term replacement.
