Music Concourse Drive in front of the California Academy of Sciences will be renamed Claude the Alligator Way to honor Claude, the albino alligator who died at 30. A public memorial celebration will take place Sunday, January 18, on the Music Concourse in Golden Gate Park. The renamed stretch runs between JFK Drive and MLK Jr. Drive. The decision places Claude alongside other local honorees such as Nancy Pelosi, whose named street runs behind the Academy. Supervisor Myrna Melgar introduced a resolution in mid-December and praised Claude for exemplifying San Francisco values, scientific curiosity, environmental support, and embracing those who don't always fit in. Officials considered several other street options before selecting this prominent location.
