South Berkeley murder suspect dies in custody after 'medical emergency'

Steve Addison, despite his chronic illnesses, was in custody when he suffered a medical emergency on Sept. 16, ultimately leading to his death at the hospital.
The Alameda County Sheriff's Office reported that deputies made arrangements for Addison's family to visit him after determining his condition had worsened following a medical emergency.
Steve Addison was accused of murder in the death of Matthew Lamont Gullette and was due for hearings just before his sudden medical decline and passing.
Despite being classified into a therapeutic housing unit at Santa Rita Jail, Addison succumbed to health issues that arose on the morning of Sept. 16.
