Solano County PG&E customer finds out he's been paying neighbor's bill for up to 18 years
Briefly

Ken Wilson, a resident of Solano County, discovered he had been paying for the utility usage of the neighboring unit for almost 18 years, or since 2006. Despite taking measures to reduce his energy consumption, such as installing a watt meter, his bill remained consistently high, prompting him to contact PG&E for clarification. When he did, he was shocked to learn of the billing error, stating, 'Even after I turned off my breakers, I kept going outside to check my meter to see if it was still running and it was still running. I couldn't believe it.' PG&E acknowledged their mistake, highlighting the importance of monitoring meter ID numbers on utility bills.
PG&E has accepted responsibility for the billing error; however, they have yet to explain how they plan to rectify the situation for Wilson. This incident, while possibly rare, serves as a reminder for consumers to attentively cross-check the meter ID number on their monthly utility bills against the actual meter to ensure accurate billing.
