Laurene Powell Jobs is spearheading a new vision for the former San Francisco Art Institute, which has been closed since its bankruptcy in 2021. The project, named California Academy of Studio Arts (CASA), will offer a yearlong, unaccredited program for 30 visual studio artists at no cost. Inspired by Black Mountain College, CASA aims to provide resources such as studio space, mentorship, and public engagement opportunities. The new arts center also intends to revive historical art features, like the Diego Rivera mural, and hopes to revitalize San Francisco's economy through its creative community.
"CASA aims to inspire creative exploration and collaboration, reminiscent of the legendary Black Mountain College, nurturing a new generation of artists with groundbreaking resources."
"Selected artists will receive studio space, mentorship, and opportunities for public engagement, positioning CASA as an integral part of the local arts ecosystem."
