San Francisco's automated speed cameras will enforce speeding fines starting Tuesday. Previously, warnings were issued since March, but now penalties range from $50 to $500 for speeding violations. Cameras are installed in high-risk areas, including school zones. As of Tuesday, all 33 cameras are operational and visible. Vehicles exceeding the speed limit by at least 11 mph will receive fines. Ticket values escalate based on the severity of the infraction, while citations do not impact DMV points.
As of Tuesday, all of the cameras are installed and operational. Erica Kato, an SFMTA spokesperson, told SFGATE that the cameras are visible to drivers.
Any vehicle going at least 11 mph over the posted speed limit is going to be stuck with a fine. The citations will only be a civil penalty and won't show up as a DMV point.
