S.F. supervisors begrudgingly greenlight big boost to SFPD overtime
Briefly

San Francisco's Board of Supervisors has approved an additional $61 million for police overtime amid a significant budget shortfall of $818 million. Although the vote passed 9-2, Supervisors expressed frustration over ongoing reliance on unforeseen overtime expenditures. Funding for police and sheriff departments will primarily come from existing budgets, but the general fund will cover approximately $5.5 million. A recent audit revealed concerning patterns of excessive overtime and possible fraud, prompting city officials to demand better oversight and fiscal responsibility from the police department.
I'm not proud of this vote... I don't think the city should ever be in a situation that requires this much overtime from our public safety agencies.
I strongly urge the department to immediately prioritize getting things in order and doing your fair share to help us close our budget deficit.
