Three planning commissioners in San Francisco left a closed-session meeting in protest over the mayor's sidelining of a candidate search for the planning director position. They were frustrated by the mayor's one-candidate approach, favoring Sarah Dennis Phillips without interviews. The walkout shocked past planning commission members, signaling dissent towards the decision-making process. After their departure, the remaining commissioners recommended Dennis Phillips, who had only recently provided her resume. The mayor officially appointed her shortly thereafter, underscoring the contentious nature of the meeting.
"We just walked out of the hearing so that will let you know how we feel about it," Williams said.
Commissioners had received calls earlier this week from mayoral policy chief Ned Segal asking them to advance Sarah Dennis Phillips' name to Lurie.
