"I just couldn't stop thinking about how easily that could have been my son and I. We're always paying attention. We're always being careful when we're out walking. But I don't have enough fingers to count the number of times cars come flying around the corner, or run through a red light."
"I walked the new 38-mile Roundabout trail in 12 hours one day in January and I was surprised how many people were interested in hearing about my experience. I thought that if I pushed myself to attempt an even more extreme length, it could help bring attention to the good work Walk SF is doing."
Harrison Anderson, a local father concerned about rising pedestrian deaths in San Francisco, undertook a 50-mile walk around the city to raise awareness and funds for Walk SF. Motivated by recent fatal incidents, including the death of a two-year-old girl in Mission Bay, Anderson created a custom route called The Hourglass that traversed the city from Russian Hill to Fisherman's Wharf, along the Embarcadero, and through various neighborhoods including City College and Candlestick Point. Anderson, who regularly navigates the city on foot with his four-year-old son, exceeded his $5,000 fundraising goal while documenting the journey on social media. His effort aimed to highlight dangerous driving behaviors and advocate for safer streets.
