Hazardous surf conditions prompted beach closures and multiple water rescues near Capitola and Santa Cruz. Authorities warned beachgoers of dangers such as debris in the water and high waves. Despite numerous rescues, no serious injuries or fatalities had been reported. Local photographer Mark Woodward highlighted the risks, reflecting on past tragedies caused by underestimating ocean hazards along the coastline.

The cliffs are nothing to mess around with, Woodward said, explaining how he's personally witnessed at least two deaths near Lighthouse Point.
