Prosecutors Say Chinatown Backstabbing Was Random Attack With 'No Words Spoken'
"The suspect appeared to specifically target the victim, approaching on the sidewalk from behind, aggressively thrusting a weapon into his back, and then strolling on across the street with a plastic shopping bag in his hand. The attack happened at the intersection of Stockton and Sacramento streets."
"As prosecutors said in court documents, the act occurred with 'no words spoken, no threat posed.' Prosecutors now say that Huang 'acted without mercy and with the specific intent to kill the victim,' though investigators have said that the suspect and victim did not appear to know one another."
"The knife only narrowly missed the victim's aorta, and he was put into a medically induced coma. Huang was apprehended shortly after the stabbing about five blocks away, on the 600 block of Powell Street, on Nob Hill. Huang has been charged with attempted murder and several other charges."
On March 5, a violent stabbing occurred at the intersection of Stockton and Sacramento streets in San Francisco's Chinatown. A man waiting to cross the street was attacked from behind by 37-year-old Jian Feng Huang, who stabbed him with a knife and continued walking without speaking. Surveillance video captured the unprovoked assault, showing the victim collapsing to the ground. The knife narrowly missed the victim's aorta, and he was placed in a medically induced coma. Investigators determined the suspect and victim did not know each other. Huang was apprehended five blocks away on Powell Street. He has a prior 2020 arson conviction and has been charged with attempted murder and other offenses. He pleaded not guilty in court.
