New Residential Tower Nearly as Tall as Transamerica Pyramid Gets Approved
"A new tower in the middle of the city that will change the San Francisco skyline once more gained its approvals Tuesday after being stalled for years. More than 1,000 new housing units are now officially in the pipeline for SF in the next half decade, as a stalled and several-times-redesigned residential project at 10 South Van Ness has now been approved."
"After a pandemic and the passage of Senate Bill 423, the project grew from 767 units to 1,019 units, and the newest version, dubbed 10 SVN, got its approvals before the Christmas holiday, as the Chronicle reports. The building will include 363 rental units, 89 of which will be designated affordable, and the tower will contain 656 condos on the upper levels."
Approval has been granted for a 67-story residential tower at 10 South Van Ness, bringing the project to 1,019 units after multiple redesigns and delays since 2017. The development grew from 767 to 1,019 units following the pandemic and passage of Senate Bill 423. The building will feature 363 rental units, 89 designated affordable, and 656 condominiums on upper floors. The tower will rise to 820 feet, making it the third-tallest building in the city. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027. Proposals for even taller towers at 77 Beale Street and the Oceanwide Center site could further change the skyline.
