New food and drink spots by Stephen Curry, celebrity chef breathing new life into SF Union Square
"We want to bring community. We want to bring fun. We want to bring culture. That's what San Francisco's about,"
"If you want it, we are going to have it for you. We're meeting the moment post-pandemic. It's about experiences. It's about retail that people want,"
"Every single day, we're going to be relentless in bringing tourism and conventions and business back,"
Mayor Daniel Lurie, Warriors star Stephen Curry, and chef Michael Mina arrived by cable car for the debut of Mina's Bourbon Steak and the new bar The Eighth Rule, a Mina–Curry partnership. The opening aimed to restore energy, community, and culture to Union Square and attract visitors with dining and entertainment experiences. Union Square Alliance CEO Marisa Rodriguez framed the effort as meeting the post-pandemic moment with experiences and retail people want. Several high-profile stores have opened recently and Uniqlo plans a flagship nearby in 2026. Mayor Lurie announced expanded downtown liquor licenses to support tourism, conventions, and business recovery, and more major announcements were teased.
