Liz Wilhelm and Dallas Smith, an experienced kayaking couple, have made history by becoming the first known people to circumnavigate a 225-mile route across all nine Bay Area counties. They undertook the challenge, paddling about 20 miles daily for nearly two weeks, starting and ending in Pittsburg, California. Despite their extensive kayaking experience, they faced unexpected challenges like time changes. Their journey was meticulously planned over four months, and they expressed a desire to undertake the challenge again with more time for preparation and exploration.
"You’re in conditions a lot. There’s a lot of current. There’s a lot of wind," said kayaker Liz Wilhelm.
"We started planning about four months ago, so it was nonstop preparation to be able to make it happen," said Dallas Smith.
"It got a little windy at the end, and it’s nice to have a vision and see it through to completion," Wilhelm added.
"I would absolutely do it again, and I would do it with more time, like three weeks," Smith remarked.
