The current safety issue around the increased traffic on the trail by e-bikes, scooters, pedestrians, and cyclists must be addressed immediately. A quick, low-cost solution would be to stripe the trail down the middle. This simple addition could drastically improve safety, preventing potential collisions among various users who may drift across the trail. In collaboration with the East Bay Regional Park District and local cities, the implementation of this change could be executed efficiently.
As we confront the student housing crisis in the Bay Area, it’s vital that institutions like the Peralta Community College system respond to the housing insecurity affecting about 69% of their students. With homelessness being increasingly criminalized, it underscores the importance of our schools and communities providing immediate support and action to assist those in need. Programs like Long Beach City College's Safe Parking initiative need to be expanded to support students living in their cars.
